Jack, Brave, Dolly, Master, Pakkun, and Buddy

As some fans might already know, all Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC challengers so far have had unique code names within the game's programming. Through data mining, the community has been able to determine each post-launch fighter's distinct identifiers.

Before they were officially released, Piranha Plant, Joker, and Hero were essentially leaked to certain members of the community because information was at one point discovered inside the game.

Piranha Plant is 'Pakkun,' Joker is 'Jack,' and Hero is 'Brave.' But what about the code names for Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard, and Byleth? Also, what are the meanings for each of these identifiers?

In Japan, Piranha Plants are known as 'Pakkun Flowers.' I imagine data miners would've been confused at the 'Pakkun' data entry had the Piranha Plant not already been revealed prior to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's release.

Fans have speculated that 'Jack' is some sort of wordplay that references Joker since both these names are the titles of types of playing cards. Of course, 'Jack' could be a direct reference to Jack Frost of the Persona series.

For the longest time, fans figured that it would just be Erdrick from Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3 that would be joining the roster. The Japanese word 'Yuusha' (Erdrick's class in Dragon Quest) can translate to either hero or 'brave' — which is Hero's code name.

Free Super Smash Bros Ultimate Code

After this, it appears that Nintendo caught on to data miners discovering the identities of unreleased challengers. However, code names for Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard, and Byleth were still found after they became available.

Smash Bros Ultimate Cheat Codes

Banjo-Kazooie was apparently given the label of 'buddy' during development. Obviously this stems from the fact that Banjo and Kazooie fight as a duo and are buddies.

Terry Bogard is strangely known as 'dolly' in the game's code. If this was leaked, then fans probably would've jumped to the conclusion that Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was joining.

In Japan, Terry Bogard's name is 'Bogādo Terī.' The 'dolly' code name seems to be a pun that's based on the last two syllables of Terry's Japanese name.

'Dori,' in other words. Keep in mind that the 'r' sound is sort of a mixture of the 'r' and 'l' sounds to English speakers, so it sounds like 'dolly.'

Finally, Byleth is referred to as 'master' in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's coding. The reference seems to stem from Byleth's position as a professor in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
